- 11 September 1666: Nine days after the start of the Great Fire, Margaret Hodgson of Richmond tells a York court that a beggar told her yesterday of a plot to burn London
- 25 March 1667: Burials must henceforth be in wool, in order to support woollen manufacturers and reduce linen imports
- 17 April 1687: The Duke of Buckingham, rakish ex-favourite of Charles II, writes from his hovel deathbed in Kirkbymoorside (Ryedale), begging a ticket to heaven
