Event Date Place Description Sources
Marriage [E0249] 6/5/1854 St Elvan’s Church, Aberdare, Glamorganshire Based on AMA's sight of marriage certificate. Both "signed X by mark." Witnesses John Hughes & Thomas Evans. I assume St John's, the old parish church, wasn't used after the construction of St. Elvan's in 1851-2. 1
Residence [E0741] 6/5/1854 Llwydcoed, Aberdare, Glamorganshire   1
Residence [E0743] 1861 Clive Place, Trecynon, Aberdare, Glamorganshire David Jones 33, born "Breck, Llawyl," S. Wales pronunciation of Llywel? Also Catherine and kids 6 and 2. Address given in census as Clive Place, Cwmdare, which is true in the sense that both Cwmdare and Trecynon are on the same side of the River Cynon. JONESFAM: The houses in Clive Place were not yet numbered in 1861, but if the order of census entries was the same as in 1871, it was probably the same house as that where David Jones' nephew Jonah Davies was born in November 1870, and where his sister Mary was living with her children in March 1871. 2

Narrative

JONESFAM: At least two children. Reasons for believing him to be the 'right' David are: his age, his place of birth, his being a sawyer, as Joshuah was, and he and Catherine naming their two eldest children Joshuah and Elizabeth, after his parents. His wife, Catherine, was born in Aberdare. Children Joshuah and Elizabeth were clearly named after David's parents.
