Narrative
Demolished and replaced by the new Martins Bank HQ in 1932. Cotton trading seems to have been conducted outside on the Exchange Flags until the 1880s, though participants, particularly after the advent of telecommunications, took offices in Brown's and the 1808 century exchange building. It is said that trading moved into Brown's in 1896, and in 1906 a high-tech, purpose-built Cotton Exchange was inaugurated. Its glorious façade was substituted by some mediocre modernism in the 1960s, although some of the office space was retained.
