.At a court held at Leeds on the 10th May, this year, it was ordered that “every member, assistant, or common council man” of the corporation, except “old Mr Hargreave,” should provide himself with a suitable gown under a penalty of £5; and also attend the mayor to church upon festival days and other public and solemn occasions, under a penalty of one shilling. The gowns were ordered to be black, faced and trimmed with black velvet, or plush, and with long hanging sleeves.
