- 4 May 1807: Lord Milton welcomes 10,000 to his 21st birthday barbecue at Wentworth Woodhouse, Rotherham, during his campaign to be elected MP for the Whigs
- 16 November 1814: Blacksmith Samuel Hick pantomimes for Selby Wesleyans a dream in which he sails to the West Indies to liberate the slaves
- 29 September 1830: Tory Radical Richard Oastler writes that “free” white workers in the Bradford mills are worse off than their enslaved black counterparts in the colonies
- 24 November 1839: Betsy Sawyer, a freed Antiguan slave, and family servant to the Rev. Thomas Murray, dies at Yeadon
- 24 September 1862: Having bet his shirt on blockade-running to the Confederates, Hull mayor Zachariah Pearson tells of his ruin by Lombard Street and Abraham Lincoln
