Edward Dickenson of Halifax, was summoned at the instance of the steward of the Earl of Scarborough, for turning his cows, three in number, to pasture in the “Shrogg’s wood,” to the damage of the oak saplings. As he was proved to have been repeatedly warned of the consequences of such a practice, he was fined £2. Harriet Clapham and Mary Eccles, of Lee Bank, were charged with hanging their clothes to dry upon the young trees in the same wood, but were liberated at the request of the complainant, on paying the expenses, 11s.
