Excerpt

Full content pending custom excerpt:

On 1 July 1947, the LMS moved an entire farm from Langbar near Ilkley to Oakham in Rutland. 20 vans were used to transport tractors, hen huts and farm implements plus cattle, pigs and poultry. The owner of the farm, Mr J S Whitaker and all his staff travelled in a passenger coach attached to the same train. The cows were loaded from the long loading dock and cattle pens opposite the town hall in the early morning and were discharged at their destination by 4pm the same day in time for milking.

To facilitate reading, the spelling and punctuation of elderly excerpts have generally been modernised, and distracting excision scars concealed. My selections, translations, and editions are copyright.
