Memorandum that the 14th day of February, in the twenty second year of king Edward IV, came afore John Marshall, lieutenant, Robert Rede Gyrdewler, unto the council chamber with other persons with him; and then and there showed, how that William Welles, carpenter, should report, that the last day of January last past, sitting at the ale at Eden Berry’s, Gotherymgate [Goodramgate], that one asked and said among the fellowship sitting at ale, “Sirs, whom shall we have to our mayor this year?” Whereunto answered and said Stephen Hodgson, “Sirs, methink, and it please the commons, I would we had master Wrangwith, for he is the mayor that my lord of Gloucester will do for.”
