- 15 September 1679: The election at York for the Exclusion Bill Parliament is dissolved to more convenient locations
- 9 July 1680: The Protestant Robert Bolron says that William Battley of Leeds lied in saying that Bolron had falsely accused the Catholic Sir Thomas Gascoigne of treason, and was fussy about almanacs
- 2 August 1680: William Dolben, perhaps reluctantly, condemns Thomas Thwing to death at York for his part, without co-conspirators, in a fictitious conspiracy – the Popish Plot
- 2 April 1683: A domestic dispute at the Heywoods’ in Northowram (Halifax)
- 22 June 1684: A secret Presbyterian assembly is discovered at York
- 15 January 1685: John Reresby, governor of York, refuses to help exempt Sheffield cutlers from the hearth tax because of insufficient rewards for past favours
- 7 February 1685: Notables at York await the death of Charles II, planning to prevent anti-papists and other dissidents from disrupting the accession of James II
- 17 April 1687: The Duke of Buckingham, rakish ex-favourite of Charles II, writes from his hovel deathbed in Kirkbymoorside (Ryedale), begging a ticket to heaven
- 24 June 1687: John Reresby, governor of York, protests James II’s plans to turn his residence into a Catholic school
