Reigned 1461-70 and 1471-83, led the Yorkist faction in the Wars of the Roses. 
- 29 March 1461: The Wharfe runs red as the Yorkists destroy the Lancastrians at Towton (Tadcaster), whereupon Edward IV deposes Henry VI and secures the English throne
- 22 September 1465: A (perhaps exaggerated) menu for the enthronement at Cawood Castle of George Neville as Archbishop of York
- 13 November 1478: Edward IV orders the London merchant adventurers to allow their Yorkshire colleagues fair access to Low Countries markets for their woollen cloth
- 14 February 1482: Robert Rede Gyrdewler tells the York authorities of pub canvassing in favour of Thomas Wrangwith, the future Richard III’s candidate for mayor
- 8 August 1514: Sir Thomas Wortley’s death inaugurates the memorial he has built for himself at Wharncliffe
