Föcked Translation (414): I posted to a light-hearted blog called Fucked Translation over on Blogger from 2007 to 2016, when I was often in Barcelona. Its original subtitle was "What happens when Spanish institutions and businesses give translation contracts to relatives or to some guy in a bar who once went to London and only charges 0.05€/word." I never actually did much Spanish-English translation (most of my work is from Dutch, French and German) but I was intrigued and amused by the hubristic Spanish belief, then common, that nepotism and quality went hand in hand, and by the nemeses that inevitably followed.

  1. Why thank you, you solidarious darlings! I was rather hoping Justin could go and have a word with him, what with them living in the same sector and stuff.

  2. Hi, It's Gabriel,
As you have seen I cooperate with Babel X el Sabio, a free translation and interpretation magazine. i do send them what i see and considere to be important to publish and as you can also see in all the news we have to put the source of that new, SORRY!!! I sent the source but it wasn't included in the new. I'm going to tell them to do so.

  3. Gabriel, you are Babel X el Sabio, and you fill up your website by taking content from other people without their permission. Please take down my stuff.

  4. Hi Kalebeul,

In Babel X el Sabio we are a team of translators where we compile translation news from the Web and many readers send us what they find in other Webs. That is not a crime if we mention the source of each and every new and it is what we do (or at least try to do). In that case the source was not pasted. I have apologized and i have sent a personal email to this runner of this page.
We all are colleges, we all are translators and from Babel X el Sabio we don't want to border anybody that's why we mention the sources of the news, we are not stealing knowledge but spreading it.
Furthermore BXS is a hobby for us, we don't make profit from that but we spend lot of our time in this project.
    Sincerely,
    Gabriel Cabrera.

  5. Sorry kalebeul i've just realized you are the runner of fucked translation. I cliked on your name and i could know it, i sent you an email to the account that appears don't in the blog site this morning.
As you said to take down your stuff i will do it right now.
Sorry for border you once again, i will continue reading your blog what i consider a good one.
    Sincerely,
    Gabriel Cabrera

  6. What you and your imaginary collaborators do is systematically copy content from a whole bunch of sources (not just me), not because you want to say something interesting or original about the content, but because you're too lazy to write your own. Then you spamvertise to other translators telling them about this great site with which you just happen to be associated. Part or all of that may be legal in Mérida, but it's still pretty low. http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html explains some basics.

Incidentally, if you're "Profesor de Inglés científico-técnico at the Facultad de Caminos, Canales y Puertos. Universidad de Granada (España)" and an "Intérprete jurado de inglés" (both http://www.babelxelsabio.com/contenido.php?modulo=editor), how is it that your written English is so poor?
