If this story on the German network, ARD, is true, then Aznar, Acebes and/or some of their civil servants could be looking at prison terms. The Bundeskriminalamt, more or less the German FBI, says that Madrid misinformed it twice re the the explosives used in the bombings and was electorally unforthcoming with information, apparently with the intention of furthering the Basque hypothesis. There may be a perfectly innocent excuse – the BKA’s man in Madrid might have it in for Acebes – but if true it’s disgraceful as well as incomprehensible: any government that can’t exploit to its advantage an attack of this nature, whoever the authors, is so formidably incompetent that it deserves to be kicked out.
