Barcelona council has released a couple of specimens of “native” ducks into the city’s parks and is contemplating a similar campaign involving squirrels. The ducks have been operated on to stop them fleeing to suburbs without Chinese restaurants, but in general this is good stuff. Right? Wait a minute:
[Sustainability Tsar Imma Mayol] explained that the reintroduction of wild fauna is preceded by the removal of destitute domestic animals. In the case of Pegasus Park, 130 deserted ducks were removed last year and replaced by a smaller number of wild specimens.
So where did those 130 hapless creatures go? What does Barcelona council have for lunch?
Marc is a tipping hero.
