As you may by now know, I’ve never really got the argument that Cataloonia must be a nation because every single one of its residents identifies with a silly dance or hat or Romance dialect which the culturally and possibly racially inferior residents of neighbouring regions are simply dying to prohibit. So it is with joy and some relief that I can reveal conclusive evidence differentiating Barcelona from other mafia dens like Marbella or Valencia. For although in quantitative terms they may all be more or less equally corrupt, in Barcelona embezzlement is conducted in such a refined fashion that prison terms for those involved would simply constitute yet another case of sour grapes on the part of the culturally and quite probably racially inferior residents of neighbouring regions. Someone called Xavier writes:
A suggestion for the judges investigating the commissions charged by [Pujol stooge] Macià Alavedra during a life dedicated to public service: search the companies which acquired at respectable prices pictures from his wife, Doris Malfeito. Amongst the generous purchasers: Alfonso Escámez, José María Amusátegui, Lluís Pascual Estevill…
Our Doris has been selling indifferent paintings to wealthy men without any prior known interest in art for some years, recounts Rafael del Barco Carreras, who did several years for corrupt construction deals in a cell he believes he should have shared with Pascual Maragall. Ah! la vie d’artiste!

It is of course well known that Joan Clos was made ambassador to Istanbul because of his excellent knowledge of Turkish, and not because of any skeletons in his forum. And, obviously, all other individuals mentioned here are innocent until a court can be found that will prove them guilty. Which may take some time.
Other news: kalebeul helps you get laid. What a glorious day!

Despite her extraordinary selling power, I can’t find any of the works of Doris Malfeito online. “Nicholas van Orton” explains why, and recounts this delicious fraudster’s “sales” relationships with Samaranch and the International Olympic Committee, Banco Vitalicio, the constructor Kepro, La Caixa…:
You’re right about laundering via art being Cataluña’s hecho diferencial. It’s not just the “right” that does it:
She has also been director of a company that builds tunnels and bridges. What a remarkable woman!
