The Al-Andalusian truth behind April Fool’s

Most unfortunate that Tony Blair’s moderate Muslims mostly turned out to be cartoon psychos. Here’s another burst of frivolity, available in several locations, which, like Yasser Arafat, I take to be a spoof:

Many of us celebrate what is known as April fool or, if it is translated literally, the “trick of April”. But how much do we know of the bitter secret behind this day?

When the Muslims ruled Spain, approximately one thousand years ago, they were a force that could not be destroyed. The western Christians wished that they could wipe Islam from the face of the earth, and they succeeded to some extent.

They tried to limit the spread of Islam in Spain and to put an end to it, but they did not succeed. They tried numerous times and never succeeded.

After that, the kuffaar sent their spies to Spain to study and find out the secret of the Muslims’ strength which could not be defeated. They discovered that adhering to taqwa (piety or consciousness of Allaah) was the reason.

When the Christians discovered the secret of the Muslims’ strength, they started to think of strategies to break this strength. On this basis they began to send wine and cigars to Spain for free.

This tactic on the part of the west produced results, and the faith of the Muslims began to weaken, especially among the young generation in Spain. The result of that was that the western Catholic Christians subdued the whole of Spain and put an end to the Muslim rule of that land which had lasted for more than eight hundred years. The last stronghold of the Muslims, in Grenada, fell on April 1st, hence they considered this to be the “trick of April.”

From that year until the present, they celebrate this day and consider the Muslims to be fools. They do not regard only the army at Granada to be fools who are easily deceived, rather they apply that to the entire Muslim ummah. It is ignorant of us to join in these celebrations, and when we imitate them blindly in implementing this evil idea, this is a kind of blind imitation which confirms the foolishness of some of us in following them. Once we know the reason for this celebration, how can we celebrate our defeat?

After knowing this reality, let us make a promise to ourselves never to celebrate this day. We have to learn from the Spanish and adhere to the reality of Islam and never allow our faith to be weakened again.

I say: it does not matter what the origins of April fool are. What matters more is knowing the ruling on lying on this day, which we are sure did not exist during the first and best generations of Islam. It did not come from the Muslims, but rather from their enemies.

The things that happen on April fools’ day are many. Some people have been told that their child or spouse or someone who is dear to them has died, and unable to bear this shock, they have died. Some have been told that they are being laid off, or that there has been a fire or an accident in which their family has been killed, so they suffer paralysis or heart attacks, or similar diseases.

Some people have been told about their wives, that they have been seen with other men, and this has led them to kill or divorce their wives.

These are the endless stories and incidents that we hear of, all of which are lies which are forbidden in Islam and unacceptable to common sense or honest chivalry.

We have seen how Islam forbids lying even in jest, and it forbids frightening a Muslim whether in seriousness or in jest, in words or in actions.

This is the law of Allaah in which is wisdom and care for people’s circumstances.

And Allaah is the Source of Strength.

Come back Tricky Dicky, etc etc

(Apart from the cigars–or do the imams accept that the Welsh discovered America?–the reference in another part of the AF documentation to a 17th century Dreck Magazine makes me suspect someone is subjecting the faithful’s dangly bits to quite severe downward pressure.)

  1. Recently a Young Sister’s Group passed on a questionable story to my daughter in which the claim was made that Fool’s Day had to do with the unthrowing of the Muslims of Spain. Being that my husband and I are history buffs & I have studied the history behind holidays we knew this “claim” to be false.

It is sad that it is “dangerous” for our young Muslims to even enter in to “religious” discussion on supposedly serious Muslim chat groups (even gender-segregated) due to the rampid gossip that is spread under the cloak of “truth”. This story is a clear example of how willing many Muslims are willing to make a “boogy man” out of others, rather than face the fact that the Loss of Spain was due to the corruption of the MUSLIMS who fought amongst themselves, as is often the case today in the Ummah.

Instead the Muslim Ummah wants to blame someone else and so they accept who ever the finger is being pointed at. What ever happened to Islamic justice? Solely because someone is a non-Muslim does not mean they are in the wrong and evil, while being Muslim makes one right. Nor does being born into a Muslim family make one right and the others wrong.

Yet this is happening. I have heard in our Ummah statements by professors that “they aren’t REAL Muslims” in reference to Muslim American converts. I have heard Arabs speak derogatorily about other races within the ummah, blaming the non-Arabs for bring fitnah and innovation into the Ummah. All of these acts are dividing and destroying our ummah. The shatan doesn’t need the non-Muslim to send spies into the Ummah to destory us, we have many within our own Muslim Ummah who are more than willing to help the shatan for the sake of Nationalism, Tribalism, Racism and Economic rankings to do that.

We fight for the sake of buildings, but sit back and let our Brotherhood and Sisterhood destroyed! May Allah forgive All of Us for our inaction and our weak deens!

Below I have added the article that corrects the misinformation that is being passed by the Muslim masses on the email. Insha Allah, in the future we will start to check into these claims before they are shared with our fellow Muslims.

It Appears That Muslims Are the Fools

Now as regards the incorrect story circulating amongst the Muslims on the Internet saying that April Fool’s Day is the celebration of the kufar over the conquest of Muslim Spain. I felt that it was necessary to clarify a few points in the interest of truth, inshallah.

Bismillah Al Hamdulilah was Salat wa Salam ala rasoolulah. Allahu Alim. In the Name of Allah, I praise Allah and ask for His Peace upon Muhammad, ameen. Allah Alone is The All-Knower.

To continue: Once again, Muslims are circulating a fabrication on the Internet trying to claim things which can easily be proven incorrect by Christians and non-Muslims who rejoice in watching us play the part of Everyday Fools.

The most recent story says that Christians could not conquer the Muslims there and sent spies to discover why. According to the story, they found that the Muslims there were on the ‘Taqwah’ (God Fearing and Pious) of Islam. Then the story says the Christians sent in alcohol and cigarettes which the Muslims used and lost their ‘Taqwah’ and then the Christians defeated the Muslims on April first and began celebrating ‘April Fool’s Day’ ever since. This story is not correct in many aspects.

1.) First, let us consider the historic fact that Muslim Spain ended on the 12th of January in the Christian year of 1492 A.D. yet ‘April Fool’s Day was not heard of until over fifty years later. Once upon a time, back in 16th-century France, before computers, people celebrated New Year’s Day on March 25, the advent of spring. It was a festive time. They partied steadily until April 1. In 1564, when the calendar reformed and became Gregorian, under the influence of Pope Gregory, King Charles IX proclaimed, perhaps
pompously, that New Year’s Day should be celebrated on January 1st instead of in the spring. Diehard conservatives resisted the change (or perhaps didn’t hear about it due to the absence of e-mail) and continued to celebrate New Year’s from March 25 to April 1. During this period of spring festivity, the more flexible French mocked the rigid revelers by sending them foolish gifts and invitations to nonexistent parties. The victim of an April Fools’ Day

prank was called a “poisson d’avril,” or an “April fish,” because at that time of year, the sun was leaving the zodiacal sign of Pisces. April Fools’ Day hit its stride (avoiding the banana peel) in England in the 18th century, and was brought to colonial America by the English, Scottish, and French.

2.) Second, we should know that cigarettes were not even invented until AFTER the time of the fall of Muslim Spain (January 1492). According to the State College in Framingham, the Human Biology course by Dr. Roger Morrrissette, Ph.D., smoking of any kind did not exist in Spain until after it was brought back from the New World AFTER King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella had come to rule Spain. This is from their website:

Introduction to Human Biology Framingham State College
    Roger N. Morrissette, Ph.D.

    I. The History of Smoking.

900: smoking is referred to on a Mayan stone carving.

1492: Columbus notes the natives of the New World smoke leaves.

1550: Spaniards begin cultivating tobacco in the West Indies to export to Europe.

1880: Tobacco use is widespread but people only use small amounts.

3.) Muslim Spain began to deteriorate at the time of Ibn Seenah and others who were beginning to use their logic in place of Divine Revelation of Allah. Some were very interested in the Greek and Roman philosophies and concepts and began to try to ‘rethink’ Islam much the same as some ‘modernists’ are doing today. It was right after this that Muslim Spain began to divide up into small kingdoms and fight against each other for control and gold. They employed mercenaries from amongst the Christians and killed and destroyed each other for a number of years. When the Christians came against them the first time, they appealed to the ruler of Maghrib (Morocco) across the Mediterranean Sea who sent troops to quell the attacks. He stipulated that the Muslims must stop fighting each other and go back to the Islamic system of rule under one leader. They did not do it. When they began fighting each other again, the Christians came in very strong against them and this time the ruler of Morocco refused to help them. They lost battle after battle against the Roman Christians and finally the last stronghold of Islam fell to the Christian King, Ferdinand, in January of 1492. So regarding the email claiming that April Fools Day is a celebration of the take over of Muslim Spain, it is clear the whole thing is a made up lie. This is totally unacceptable and should be brought to the attention of the one who sent you this lie in the first place. A good Muslim would never accept to repeat lies and fabrications especially in presenting facts about the history of Islam.

If you have received such a letter it is your duty in front of Allah to write back to those who also received it and ask them to contact all of those on their lists and email the truth about this issue. And we should all fear a Day when we will stand in front of Allah and be asked about these matters.

If we don’t do something about correcting the education of our beloved brothers and sisters in Islam, then everyday on the internet is MUSLIM FOOLS DAY.

Again, it is only Allah who has All Knowledge. May He forgive me my mistakes and guide us all to the right way, ameen.
